About Matthew Edge

I like understanding how a system works, finding where it breaks down, and making the next step clearer.

Industrial software development

Since June 2022, I’ve worked in industrial software development and systems integration at Carlton Automation / Carlton Industrial Solutions. My work spans C# and VB.NET applications, databases, device communications, modernization, commissioning, and support.

Earlier field-service work taught me to diagnose problems across equipment, connectivity, configuration, and the way people use a system. That perspective still shapes how I approach software.

I’m based in North Carolina. Outside professional work, I build tools that let me explore Windows engineering, local-first applications, operator interfaces, music, and games.

Technical experience

  • Windows development with C#, VB.NET, WPF, and WinForms.
  • SQL Server and SQLite data workflows.
  • Industrial protocols, terminals, readers, and printers.
  • Technical scoping, commissioning, training, and troubleshooting.
  • Modern personal projects using React, TypeScript, and applied AI.

How I use AI

I use AI tools in personal project development to explore, implement, review, and test ideas. I remain responsible for deciding the requirements, checking the behavior, resolving problems, and being clear about what has and has not been verified.
